Excellence In Construction Award Blog – By: Nicole Craft Bazdar

If you have spent time on our website, you know James CRAFT & Son prides itself on providing “Quality CRAFTsmanship in Every Job” and being a contractor of the highest quality standards. This was proven recently as we were awarded an Excellence Award from the Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors for our 2011 Adhesives Research project.

On Thursday, July 18th, Steven Kearns, Drew Doxzon, and Shawn Ely (Project Superintendent) accepted the award on behalf of James CRAFT & Son at the Awards Gala. Our project was awarded this top honor in the HVAC projects over $1 million category.

James CRAFT & Son was selected by the owner to design a system to unique requirements for a new production machine. Our in-house design team, Fred Craft, PE, and Steve Ferree, designed a solution after interpreting the needs of the owner. They worked in close collaboration with the Plant Engineer to meet the necessary environmental control and heating and cooling needs for the manufacturing process.

The project took a portion of an existing warehouse and converted it to a clean room environment to house the new equipment. The equipment required chilled water and a steam plant to support the manufacturing process. Chillers and boilers were installed in order to handle the process requirements of the machine, while an air handler was installed to manage the environmental requirements of the clean room environment.

Our team, led by Project Manager Eric Miller, worked under a time crunch to accommodate the delivery schedule of the new equipment and also had to manage working around existing, operating facilities. They coordinated installation of the new boiler and connected to existing piping without significantly disrupting operations.

Congratulations to the crew who worked on this project. Your hard work is very much appreciated and our team is already on the lookout for next year’s entries!
