Cross Keys Village New Boilers

When Cross Keys Village-The Brethren Home Community needed to replace their boilers they turned to James CRAFT & Son. The two old cast iron sectional boilers were originally installed by CRAFT in the mid 1980’s, but it was time for something new. Our Design/Build team specified high efficiency Patterson-Kelly boilers complete with new power wiring and exhaust breaching. One challenge we faced was continually supplying heat to the residents and staff while the boilers were swapped out. To do this our installers staged the installation by providing temporary piping between the old and new equipment. Another unique aspect of this project was the stainless steel chimney liner that our fabricators assembled and lowered into place with a crane. Overall the project turned out great and the owner was very satisfied. Another successful project performed by our Quality CRAFTsmen!

Lasting Impression Made During First 50 Years of Membership in ABC Keystone

James CRAFT & Son Inc Leaves Lasting Impression During First 50 Years of Membership in ABC Keystone

YORK HAVEN, Pennsylvania – James CRAFT & Son, a family-owned and operated mechanical contracting company, has a 111-year history of strong commitments: a commitment to quality, a commitment to excellent service, a commitment to maintaining its scrupulous standards, a commitment to growth, even in the toughest of economies.

This month, James CRAFT & Son, Inc. was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC) Keystone Chapter for its long-term commitment as the company celebrates its fiftieth membership anniversary with ABC Keystone. This milestone marks not only a commitment to the construction industry, but also many contributions that have helped to advance the industry during the past 50 years.

Cindy Field, vice president of ABC Keystone, commented, “The Crafts certainly continue to live by the Teddy Roosevelt quote, ‘Every man owes part of his time and money to the business or industry in which he is engaged. No man has a moral right to withhold his support from an organization that is striving to improve conditions within his sphere.'”

“The Roosevelt quote,” Field continued, “is key to what sets [James CRAFT & Son, Inc.] apart from some others. James E. Craft nurtured within his employees and other members of his family the desire and willingness to serve ABC at so many levels – a contribution that will live on for many years to come and help us to achieve new heights of success in the future.”

James E. Craft, whose achievements and services covered a broad range of activities at ABC Keystone, as well as ABC PA (the state organization, now defunct), and National ABC, was quite influential in helping ABC Keystone become the first ABC Chapter in the nation to have its own member designed, financed, and constructed building. He served on the board of directors for 15 years, serving as president (the term has since been changed to chairman) during 1978. He was bestowed every honor for service that ABC provides, including Distinguished Service Award, President’s Award, and Life Membership.

James L. Craft has also served ABC Keystone at many levels, including as president. Vicki Craft Kearns is the current chairwoman of the board, and has served the chapter in the legislative and financial arenas. Fred Craft, Tom Craft, and Bill Craft have all contributed their time and talents to ABC Keystone by serving on various committees through the years.

The fifth generation of the Craft family continues the tradition as Jessica Craft Schlosberg has recently been serving on ABC Keystone’s scholarship subcommittee, public relations committee, and the young leaders task force, and Steven Kearns is serving the chapter through its excellence in construction awards program.

ABC has had numerous committee chairs and committee volunteers from the Craft organization, including some instructors for its management education and apprenticeship programs.

“The Crafts are a gracious, hard-working family,” Field commented. “ABC Keystone has been very blessed by James CRAFT & Son’s membership.”

Family-owned and operated for more than 100 years, James CRAFT & Son services businesses in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia in the areas of HVAC, plumbing, electric, sheet metal fabrication, service, design/build, and custom fabrication. Wyndridge EIC Blog: By Steven Kearns

If you have spent time on our website, you know James CRAFT & Son prides itself on providing “Quality CRAFTsmanship in Every Job” and being a contractor of the highest quality standards. This was once again proven as we recently received an Excellence Award from the Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors for our work in 2014 on the Brew House and Restaurant Plumbing for Wyndridge Farms.

On Wednesday, July 22nd, Vicki Kearns (CFO), Mike Kearns (Estimator), Eric Miller (Project Manager), Randy Doxzon (Field Superintendent), and Ray Fertig (President, Ray Fertig Construction) accepted the award on behalf of James CRAFT & Son at the Awards Gala. Our project was awarded this top honor in the Plumbing $250,000 to $1 million category.

James CRAFT & Son, Inc. was hired to perform the plumbing work on a tasting room and event space for Wyndridge Farm. The Dallastown PA hard cider brewer decided to expand upon their recent success in the emerging hard cider industry and create a one of a kind event space by renovating and expanding upon the barn on the Owner’s farm. In addition to the tasting room project, the owner was also preparing for their entry into the beer market and with that, came the design and construction of their Brewhouse.

Our team worked closely with the owner’s brew master to create a state of the art brewery. While facing a tight schedule, multiple redesigns and material supply delays, our team worked diligently to put together a one of a kind project!.

Congratulations to the crew who worked on this project. Your hard work is very much appreciated and our team is already on the lookout for next year’s ABC EIC entries!

20+ Year Customers Receive Maintenance Discount

As a follow up to my February post, I have completed my rounds to the list of 20+ year customers to say “thank you”!  All of them were very gracious when I visited and presented to them a 20% discount off their next year’s maintenance costs.  BTW…that 20% discount idea came from our service techs…when asked “how should we recognize these long term customers?”…they were quick to respond, “give them a discount!”…and we did.

Here’s a quick summary of all those I met with…

Bob Strunk & Vicki Wishard of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chambersburg.

Julius Kissel of Shook Home in Chambersburg.

Pastor Richard Feesser, Frank Fonner and members of the church board & staff at Grace Church United Methodist in Harrisburg.

Mike Bair with Hanover Bowling in Hanover.

Ron Geist with Associated Pennsylvania Constructors in Harrisburg.

Jim Staub at Miller Chemical in Hanover.

Paul Roberts & Don Thornhill with Atlas Roofing in Camp Hill.

Paul Nelson at Associated Products Company in Mechanicsburg.

Earl Noel at his Residence in Spring Grove.
